Scientific Name: Rosa centifolia L.Rosa damascena var. tringintipetala
Family: ROSACEAE. Common Name: Rose
This species of rose has about thirty regular petals, long stamens, piriform ovaries, and an elongated calyx. The greenish-yellow stem is practically free of thorns.
It is originated from Grasse region, Maroc (centifolia), Bulgaria, Turkey (damascena).
The centifolia Rose or May Rose is cultivated in France only in the Grasse region, at Fayence and Montauroux in the Var. It be planted in an area which is not too hot or dry. It needs about 700 to 900 mm of water annually with a summer dry season. The Damas rose, however requires a favorable climate with moderate temperatures and humidity, in a well-ventilated soil. The blooming period is from late April through May in sunny places.

The essential oil is obtained by distillation and extraction of the flower. The oil odor is rose, honey-laden, sweet and strong.
It is widely used in composing perfumes such as eaux de toilettes, rose powder and many other.
