Scientific Name: Pelargonium graveolens Family: Geraniaceae. Common Names: Rose-Scented Pelargonium, Wildemalva.

This is a hardy plant which grow to a height of more than 1 m. It is full of sap during the early stages of growth, then becomes woody with a light brown bark. Its flowers are small, pale pink in color, and form dense umbels. Over 300 varieties and hybrids have been identified.

It is originated from Morocco, Egypt, Russia, France, China, Madagascar, Reunion Island andAlgeria. Blooming period is summer and fall.

Leaves and green parts harvested during the flowering season are distilled in steam. Its odor varies from particular species and region. Some has strong fragrance of roses with minty fruity accents. The version from North Africa is lighter and less minty, but the rose note is strong.

It is widely used in perfumery because it is more cost effective than the essence of rose.
